In General
Lima
Peru is without question the financial and industrial hub of the
country,
It is a city rich in
culture and things to do and see.
Founded on January 18,
1535 by the Spanish conqueror Francisco
Pizarro and named
as City of Kings.
During the colonial time, it was the
most important city in South America,
located on the central western coast
and is known for
being covered in fog most of the year.
Is
a modern city which, while constantly expanding. Lima
gained primary importance in 1542, when it was declared the capital
of the Viceroyalty of Peru,
Lima is for sure
the entrance door to Peru.

Huaca Huallamarca
Huaca
Huallamarca
is one of most important pre-Columbian
sites found within the city of Lima.
Is located on San Isidro the business area
district of Lima.
The on-site museum exhibits artifacts found in ‘Huallamarca’
since the first archaeological excavations in 1958.
Also known as ‘Pan de Azúcar’ (Sugar Bread).
Huaca Huallamarca
means the tribe that lives in a small hill. Since the arrival of the
Spanish, anything of Pre-Columbian or indigenous origin was looked
down or even purposefully defiled.
The pyramid has different levels.
And each governor built one.
Constructed by hand and from millions of mud bricks,
using the technology of the era
- small mud bricks.
Plaza
De Armas (Plaza
Mayor)
Lima
have many beautiful squares (plazas)
well most of
them are surrounded by important and gradiose
buildings
churches and historical palaces.
Plazas
is the best places to see the culture and way of living.
Today the heart of the old town is around the Plaza de
Armas or
Plaza Mayor.
This
grand plaza features many important architectural monuments and
buildings. Was founded in 1535
by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro.
The large bronze fountain in Plaza dates from 1651. Plaza
de Armas Cathedral is one of the major colonial
architectural masterpieces in Lima.
The Cathedral was originally
built in 1564
following orders of Francisco Pizarro and
designed by Francisco Becerra. There are 15 smaller chapels within
the larger cathedral structure. Another must see building that is
near The Cathedral,
on the north side of the
Plaza de Armas
is
the
Government Palace of Peru, that is
also known as the House of Pizarro.
The place for the palace was
choosen by Francisco Pizarro.
Was built over a huge Indian burying
ground Waka that had a shrine of Indian chief Taulichusco,
today is the official residence of the
president of Peru.

Church of
San Francisco
(Iglesia de San
Francisco)
Is
one of the most visited church in
Lima
and
is one of the few buildings that
predates Lima's 18th century earthquake.
The church was
completed in 1774 and is noted for its architecture.
The architecture has been described as baroque or
Spanish Neoclassicism.
It is located a
few narrow streets from the Plaza de Armas.
El Cordano
Bar
El
Cordano
is the oldest bar restaurant in Lima and all
Peru. Opened in 1905
and has changed little over the passage of time.
It serves
typical Peruvian snacks, Peruvian beers,
wines and excellent pisco sours.
This traditional bar
has been the haunt of numerous politicians and other
famous people of
Peru.
Located a block away
from the
Plaza de
Armas
right of the Palacio
del Gobierno. Inside
the bar you can see photos from 1905 when
the bar first open.
Lima Tourist Train
Tour
Another way to see the town
is
Limas Tourist Train, the tour
start every half hour from
Plaza de Armas.
Visiting the main
tourist
attractions such as the Cathedral, the San Francisco Convent and
Plaza de
San Martin.
It is recommendable
only for those who prefer quick city tours.
