Peru
- Cusco
In General
Cusco
the capital of Inca empire today is well-known
for their warm and friendly inhabitant. Located at an altitude of over
11,000 feet in the heart of the Andes mountains.
Cuzco is
Peru's main tourist destination and one of the most important
destinations worldwide.
Considered the archaeological
capital of South America, the beauty and
majesty of Cusco are unique.
The city of Cusco
combines the Inca Legacy with Spanish colonial architecture,
its
cultural richness continues to charm visitors.
The Inca empire was a very well structured society,
as they hade a great knowledge in architecture, hydraulic
engineering and medicine.
It was a Holy City, a place of pilgrimage.
In almost every corner of Cusco
you can find really cheap accommodation.
From
5 star luxury hotels, to cheap hostels and guest houses.

Central Market - San Pedro Market
One
of the best way to explore Cusco
culture is the San Pedro market.
This central
market is not just a place to buy produce, it is a cultural
experience.
Is not so many Gringos there, and the
colors, sounds
and aromas, is give in you the feeling that you
are really in Peru.
Located West of the Plaza de Armas near the San Pedro Train
Station. In
San Pedro market they sell
almost
everything, shoes,
groceries, food, herbs
and clothes.
Many
older women selling bushels of herbs and roots.
Cusco
Food
And
Restaurants
The
city of
Cusco
offers a variety of menus to suit all tastes, excellent service and
very fine cuisine. The very old
inheritance coupled with years of colonial life have contributed to
new components and seasonings. In
Cusco
they have also the best grill chicken that I try in Peru.
Some other
typical dishes are Timpo or Puchero,
Chuño Cola, Rocoto
Relleno and
Kapchi. Cusco restaurants range from the cheap and
cheerful to expensive gourmet establishments.
Some good restaurants in Cusco are: The El Buen Pastor,
Andes Grill,
Greens,
El Encuentro,
Al Grano
and
Plus Cafe,
Plaza
De Armas (Huacaypata)
The
heart of Cuzco is on the plaza de armas
was known as
Huacaypata that means Warrior Square
in quechua
language.
The
magnificent Cathedral on the left and the Church of the
Company of Jesus on the right
is dominated
the plaza.
Is the perfect place to hang out
and relax.
The Cathedral, built on
the place where once stood the palace of Inca Wiracocha.
The original Plaza was constructed in the shape of a Puma, to
reflect the mythology that revolved around the city.
