Koh
Samui In General
Koh
Samui means the island of the coconut
trees, is the third largest island in Thailand. In general
considered as the second most beautiful tourism spot in
the country. Situated in the lower Gulf of
Thailand, near the mainland commercial
town of Surat Thani.
Koh Samui is still in some
places an idyllic tropical retreat with fine sand beaches and simple
living. A great benefit of choosing
Koh Samui Thailand over another Thai destinations is
that there are several others great tropical islands near Samui.
Like Koh Tao or Koh Phangan Island.
Chaweng
Town/Beach
Chaweng town,
located on Koh Samui's east coast. Is
Koh
Samui's busiest and biggest town.
Chaweng
is also nightlife central with bars and restaurants catering to
every taste. The beach is approximately 7
km long, the soft white sands attracts
thousands of visitors all year round.
It is very relaxing but noticeably more
touristy during the high season. The central part of the
beach is a bit more crowded than the quieter north.
You
can rent anything from a simple bungalows to a five star hotel room
here. Unfortunately our hotel was cheap so was not
TV, but if you
have a laptop and a USB TV box you can connect it with the cable TV.
And if you have new mobile you can connect your laptop in internet
via Bluetooth.

Fisherman's
Village - Bophut
Bophut
Beach is located on the north side of
Samui
several kilometres between Big Buddha and
Maenam beaches.
Fishermans
Village is a quaintand traditional
Thai-Chinese village that is host to shops, stylish restaurants and
bars. Fishermans Village is
charming and should be visited by everyone on holiday to Koh
Samui. The three kilometer long
beach at Bophut has a relaxed quiet atmosphere is
simply stunning and beautiful with tall
palm trees line the length.
Big Buddha/
Wat Phra Yai
The
temple Wat Phra Yai
is located
on Bang Ruk
village
on the northeastern tip of Ko Samui.
Was built in 1972 by the
local society to give visitors a place to pay respect to The Lord Buddha.
The giant 15
meter tall golden Buddha statue of this temple is a major landmark
of Samui.
Most Visitors come to marvel at the sheer size and beauty of
this remarkable statue.
If
you climb the stairs up to the viewing platform it offers
superb vistas of the northern coast of Koh Samui.
On the temple there are also warriors
and gods from the Hindu and Buddhism religion.

Wat Silangu
Wat Silangu
is close to
Wat Phra Yai temple.
It
is said that Wat Silangu might
contain a guenine relic of the Lord Buddha himself.
Wat Silangu is located
on the 4169 ring road, 1 Km
south of Hin Ta & Hin Yai on the beach side.
The golden chedi pagoda
facing the temple entrance is a popular place of worship.
Inside the temple they have make also a giant
foot print of Buddha, and many faithful they
throw a coin
for good luck.
Lamai Town/Beach
Lamai town, set back 100 metres from the
beach itself, stretches along the beach road, and by day can
resemble a sleepy village. However,
Lamai is a 'tourist village' similar to and just as the strip
in Chaweng. Very lively at night. Some of the open style bars
feature girl's dancing and most of the
customers are European males. Lamai
beach
is the second most popular beach after Chaweng.
The general atmosphere is laid back and Lamai has slightly
older, and by extention cheaper tourist facilities than Chaweng.
Lamai beach is a wonderful place
for relaxing during the day, most of all because there’s plenty of
space.

Namuang Waterfall
Although
Koh Samui has several waterfalls,
the two Na Muang waterfalls are
probably the islands most stunning. The name Namuang refers to the
massive purple rocks that create the waterfalls.
Na muang Waterfall is located 10 km south from Nathon at
Ban
Thurian. There are 2 waterfalls. Na Muang one is 18 meter high and
can be reached by vehicle. Na Muang two is about 80 meters high and can only be reached by a 30
minute walk. The waterfalls are the most scenic on the island.
Chaweng
Nightlife
Bars,
cabarets shows and discos are mainly in Chaweng.
Chaweng nightlife
is the main reason why so many younger
tourists love staying at Chaweng.
Chaweng deserves its reputation as the place to party on Samui. The two most popular nightlife
spots can be found around the Green Mango disco and the short soi (street)
leading to it, on the Chaweng Beach Road,
or along the Reggae Pub road, which is on a small peninsular within
Chaweng lake.
