The easier way to visit Santa Teresa is by taxi. Otherwise you have to change buses and walk a lot. Santa Teresa is one of the places that you have to visit if you are person that loves arts. Located on a hill behind Lapa, close to the city center. By day, Santa Teresa is a great place to pick up some arty knick-knacks and enjoy a bite to eat in one of the many traditional restaurants. Is probably the most bohemian of all the neighbourhoods of Rio de Janeiro. You can walk along the old houses and watch artists at their work. The neighborhood was named after the Santa Tereza Church and Convent. Santa Teresa's recent history has been marked by the struggle to maintain its cultural and historical identity in face of real estate pressures and other disaggregating factors, such as urban violence in Rio. As you walk on the curvaceous streets of Santa Teresa Rio you have to remind to your self that you are in South America, not Europe.
