Fortaleza Fortress: Fortaleza Nossa SenhoraThis fortress is where the History of Fortaleza started. Mostly known as Castelo da Póvoa. Built in 1649 by the Portuguese in the Dutch side, to defend the town from pirate attacks, in the site of an earlier fort known as "Forte de Torrão". It is considered a listed property of Public Interest in Portugal. The Fortaleza fortress is located in the heart of the city and is open for visitations. To visit the Fortaleza fortress, approach the soldier who stands guard in front of the main entrance he will direct you to the main office, and the person in charge will explain briefly what can be seen and will authorize the visit.
