Corcovado Rio: Cristo Redentor Rio De JaneiroCristo Redentor in Rio is the ethnic symbol of Brazil. From anywhere in Rio, you can see Christ the Redeemer looking at you from the mountain top of Corcovado. The statue represents Jesus standing with outstretched, welcoming arms. The best way to going there is by the Corcovado train. Funicular trains depart every half-hour, daily 8:30 am-6:30 pm. The Corcovado Railway was the first eletricfied Brazilian railroad. Opened in October 9th, in 1884 by the Emperor D. Pedro II, it’s even older than the monument of Christ rendentor its self. The train crosses the largest urban forest in the world: the National Park of Tijuca. When you reach the top of Corcovado Rio you can enjoy one of the best views of Rio De Janeiro. The famous giant statue of Christ stands 38 meters high, covered in a mosaic of soapstone and weighs 635 tonnes.
