Actually, it is a pyramid, with a statue of Liberty on the top. Was inaugurated on May 25th, in 1811 to commemorate the May Revolution on 1810. Casa de Gobierno built up between 1860 to 1880, La Casa Rosada literally means The Pink House. The square was bombed on 16 June 1955 in an attempt overthrow President Peron. An appropriate place to begin a tour of Buenos Aires is at the Plaza de Mayo.
