Shweyattaw Buddha
Mandalay Hill is
the landmark of the City, The Shweyattaw Buddha image is
located approximately half way up to Hill is a large golden standing statue of the
Buddha
commissioned by King Mindon.
According to the legend Buddha
visited to the top of the Hill
he stretched out his hand to the
plain below and prophesied that a great city and religious center
would be founded at its base.
Mandalay Hill is 236 m high and situated
just northeast of the City On top of the hill you see a magnificent
view of the city and surrounding countryside. On the top you see
also the
Sutaungpyai pagoda that is build by the great builder of
Bagan,
King Anawratha, in 1052. This “wish-granting†pagoda was
often renovated by its patrons, the Konbaung kings, in later years.
