St.
Peter's Basilica
St.
Peter's Basilica
Rome St. Peter
Basilica is in the heart
of the Vatican City,
This great church is the center of christianity. The opulence of
the building's interior bears testimony to the wealth of the
catholic church in the 16th century.
The
St. Peter Basilica
stands on the foundations of the great Constantinian basilica, that stood
for over a thousand years on a sacred area of Pagan-Christians mausoleums.
The Emperor
Constantine, was the first Christian emperor of Rome,
and he build a
basilica on Vatican Hill. The site location was symbolic! this was the
place where Saint Peter, was buried in 64 A.D. A
small shrine already existed on the site but it was now replaced by
a complete new building church that was completed around 349
A.D.

What The New Age Traveler Says...?
Rome
St. Peter Basilica.
Is one of the most
Sacred Places of Rome, is the center of christianity.
The building itself is truly
impressive
and is the
largest dome in the world measuring 42
meter in diameter and reaching 138 meter
high.
When you
are inside the Basilica you have
the option of taking the elevator or the stairs, the latter being a
bit cheaper.
St. Peter Basilica
is traditionally believed to have been erected over the spot where
St. Peter was buried after his martyrdom in Rome.
For me
St. Peter Basilica
in Rome
is a masterpiece of architecture and is one of the sights that you
have to see on your trip to Rome.
