Rhodos In General
Rhodes is
the largest of the Dodecanese islands and one of the largest in the
Aegean sea. It is located
between
Crete and the near East in the Aegean ocean.
Is the Crusader island,
is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean,
attracting relentless waves of visitors from March to November.
Rhodes has the oldest tourist history from all the islands of
Greece and is famous all over the world.

beautiful island of roses, has a unique physical scenery that does
not cease to impress its visitors, the sun here
is shining more that any other place I have visit, in
the sun island or island of light there are hardly
any days when the sun doesn't shine.

in Rhodes can be, practically zero crime rate. Rhodos is also
known for the Colossus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient
world, which was sadly destroyed, The
Colossus of Rhodes was a huge statue of the god Helios in Rhodes.
It was roughly the same size as the Statue of Liberty in New
York. Colossus stood over 2,000 years ago at the
Island of Rhodos.

The Old Town
The
Old town of Rhodos exerts all
the fascination of centuries past.
Is a living settlement of
about 150 acres, with a
population of approximately 6000 who live and work in the same
buildings that were used by the Knights of St. John 500 years ago.
Rhodos old town is encircled by strong mediaeval walls "a
typical example of the techniques of the
fortification of the 14th -15th century to protect the city from all
dangers, whether coming from land or sea. A tour of the medieval
town is quite a lengthy business, given the number of monuments
there are to see. The walls with their bastions, battlements,
towers, gates cause one to gasp in wonder.

Greek Orthodox Easter
Greek Orthodox
Easter is the most important Festival of the Year. The High point is
the Easter Mass, which is celebrated at midnight on Easter Saturday
-Sunday, where people light a candle in the church and carry it home
and make a sign of cross from the smoke of the candle out side their
door. The candles and bright lights end the period of mourning and
are lit from holy candles in church. The locals then great each
other the words "Christos Anesti" which means Christ is risen. The
word “Pascha”, Easter in Greek, stems from the Jewish “Pasah” which
means “Passover.
Easter is a moveable holiday. Its celebration falls on the first
Sunday after the full moon of the spring equinox. All over the
country a plethora of customs and traditions are observed during the
Easter Holy Week.
Friday is the most sacred day of the Holy Week, the day of the
culmination of the passion of Christ with the deposition from the
cross and Christ’s burial. Women
and children go to church to decorate the Epitaph (Bier of Christ)
with flowers, The young local boys that want to
have good luck they carry the heavy Epitaph
from
neighborhood
to
neighborhood.

Old Town Nightlife
Old town
comes even more to life at night. There are
plenty of bars concentrate near
socratous street.
Socratous is
one of the old town's busiest streets, in
this area contain some very atmospheric bars
and clubs. Is normally
more local people and some tourist that have better
quality in music and clothes. You can relax and
take your drink with out worry about any drunk stupid tourist that
looking for fighting.
Rhodos Nightlife
Rhodes is famous for its nightlife
and
is
brimming with energy.
Most action takes part around Thermai
Hotel and at Orfanidou street on the west
waterfront where most discos, coffe-shops
and bars are situated.
Rhodes
has a very active nightlife
claims one of the most active nighttime scenes in Greece.
In Orfanidou bar street you can
find bars for all kind of taste, Danish bar like Faces, Holland bar
like Down Under, Rock Bars like Captain Hook and Colorado Bar-Club
that is 3 stages Rock live music on first stage, trance and house
music on second and RnB Music on the third stage. For people that want
to have more action they can try Paradiso summer club that stay open till late, especially on weekends.
Paradiso is located outside Rhodes on 15
klm Rhodos-lindos. If you want to join the local people than
you
can try the Greek bouzouki music, Astra and sfera is a good choice with
many beautiful Greek girls that dance all night long.
Filerimos Hill
Filerimos is a hill 15 km away from
Rhodes-town, in the ancient city of
Ialysos once stood on the slopes of Mountain Filerimos. Today the
site contains outstanding archeological sites.
Filerimos means "lover of solitude" after the 10th-century
settlement here by Byzantine hermits. Filerimos
and the surrounding area are steeped in history, the place was
restored by the Italians and British. The
monastery that standing
there is dates from the rule of the Knights. A short walk
from the monastery and archeological zone we came across the "Way of
the Cross", with 14 stations marked out in copper plaques that lead
to an enormous concrete crucifix. for a truly amazing view.
The views from the mountain stretch from hillside
to villages nestling in their foothills, sweeping down to the
coastline and Turkey on the blue horizon.

Valley of the
Butterflies
The Valley
of the Butterflies of Rhodos located 20 km
from the airport of Rhodes, and is close to
the Village Kalamonas,
On the western side of Rhodes, near
the village of Tholos.
This valley is home to
thousands of butterflies that flood the valley in order to reproduce.
The Valley of the Butterflies is really
worth a visit. Petaloudes is a unique natural Park, where each year
from June to September, thousands of multicolored butterflies
appear. Sadly, the
butterflies have declined in numbers of the years. This is because
of many reasons, but namely because of
visitors disturbing them, as this
Butterflies
are sleep during the day.
The Park
is a nice place to walk under the shade of the trees,
and to watch streams, waterfalls, and Many
different paths, stairs, and bridges.

Embonas
The
cute fertile mountainous village of Emponas is situated at a
distance of 52 kilometers southwestern to the town of Rhodes at an
altitude of some 450 meters, at the foot of Attavyros, the highest
mountain of the island. The high location of the village has kept it
almost untouched by tourism and completely unspoiled. That's why
Emponas have still secrets that even local people don't know about
it, one of them is the secret waterfall.
Embonas is known for its wonderful
grilled meat tavernas as the area is fortunate in being able to
provide excellent fresh meats,
the village is famous for its wine, maybe the best wine of the
island. The name of the village is a false pronunciation of the
ancient word “ambon”, which means “mountainside”.
For those intrepid enough to want to
“take to the hills”, there is a path that leads right to the top of
the 1 215m tall Attavyros.

Kalithea
Kalithea beach
is famous for its hot medicinal springs which
were built by the Italians. Is the beach where many locals like to
gather every day. The attraction is partly the sort distance from
Rhodes town. It is a wonderful place with
palm and pine trees. Buildings
influenced by the Arabic architecture with its magnificent mosaics,
and are under renovation. The former spa of Kalithea, built in the 1920's.
Faliraki
Faliraki is one
of the most popular holiday resorts on the island
with excellent tourist infrastructures and buzzing nightlife.
The area is famed for its hotels in all classes ranging from
large cosmopolitan complexes to small, friendly, family-run
concerns. Faliraki has two different sides:
on one hand the big, luxury hotels with their private beaches and
full range of facilities, on the other the noisy center of the town
with its jewelery shops, Irish pubs and
ethnic restaurants.
In the morning on the famous beach with its striped umbrellasat
and in night in the narrow streets with their garish neon lights and
loud noise. Ermou Street, which
runs down to the sea from the main road, is where most of the bars
are to be found. The impressive range of
nightlife in the area is well known across the whole island since it
covers all the needs of visitors.

Anthony Quinn
Beach - The small bay of Anthony Quinn
with crystal clear waters and rocky surroundings is one of the most
beautiful beaches on the island of Rhodes. The beach is know today
by the actor;s name, since filming the Guns Of Navarone here. The
original name thow is "VAGIES BAY". Tsampika Beach - One of
the most Beautiful beaches, located before the village of Archangelos, clear water and admire the imposing rock
with
the Monastery of the Virgin of Tsampika, from which the beach has
taken its name. Agathi Beach -
To find
easier Agathi beach ,follow the sings of Haraki Beach,
half a way along the road you come upon the medieval castle
of Feraklos. This is my favorite beach
It is a beautiful,
sheltered, cosy beach, and the only sign of civilization are its
canteens.

Lindos
Lindos, is the main tourist
destination on the island. The village is famous for its Acropolis.
Lindos town, which is located 50 km southeast of Rhodes town,
has a population of 1,000 people. It is one of the most interesting
archaeological sites in Rhodes and it attracts thousands of visitors
from all over the world.
Lindos was famous in ancient times for its naval force.
Getting to Lindos is easy and very inexpensive, no matter
where you are staying. Taxis and busses are very reasonable too.
Lindos can also be reached by boat from
the Mandraki harbor.
A road leads high up to the acropolis, and if
you wish to avoid the tiring climb you can hire a donkey at the
entrance of the town.

Lindos Nightlife
Lindos has as varied a nightlife as
it does dining scene. The bars & restaurants
here can seat you in either a shady terrace down at street level, or
up up the roof. Lindos has a wealth
of different bars catering to all tastes.
There are so many bars in Lindos it would be impossible for one
person to list them all and there are
few bars and clubs that remain open until
the early hours of the morning. Below the old
town, on the road down to Pallas Beach, there are two open-air clubs
for late-night dancing, Nama and Acropolis, while a third,
Amphitheatre, lies on the crest of the hill as one enters Lindos on
the road from Kalathos.

Ancient Entertainment
One of the most
ancient entertainment custom in Greece is panigiri,
is celebrated most on summer, one of the best is on 15 August. The
Dormition of the Virgin and is
Celebrated throughout the whole island and the rest of Greece.
People from all ages going out on that day for play games, walk to
the markets that set up especially for that day and for go to
church. A very good place to see this
custom
