The
Old town of Rhodes exerts all
the fascination of centuries past. Is a living settlement of
about 150 acres, with a
population of approximately 6000 who live and work in the same buildings that
were used by the Knights of St. John 500 years ago. Rhodes old town is
encircled by strong mediaeval walls "a typical example of the techniques of the
fortification of the 14th -15th century to protect the city from all dangers,
whether coming from land or sea. A tour of the medieval town is quite a
lengthy business, given the number of monuments there are to see. The walls with
their bastions, battlements, towers, gates cause one to gasp in wonder.

Old Town of Rhodes, you are in the oldest inhabited medieval
town in Europe.
