capital city of the State of Ceará, one of

Mercado Central
is where anything and everything can be bought.
Is a building with four floors, designed specifically to be a
market, and
there are dozens of shops in each floor. In the first floor, there
are some self-service restaurants

local Brazilian cuisine. The shops sell
souvenirs,
t-shirts, hammocks,
sculptures, paintings

Fortaleza
has hundreds of exceptional and unique
beaches
from
North to South. Some of the most famous
beaches of Fortaleza are Iracema, Meireles, Mucuripe and Praia do
Futuro. Fortaleza
beaches is also the right place to try the fresh fishes of
Ceará. Fish
and seafood are a common component of the local food,
and there are plenty of sea food restaurants in all of the beaches
of Fortaleza. Iracema is the
bohemian beach. The name Iracema refers to
an Indian female of the same name from the
Tabajara tribe who fell in love with a Portuguese colonizer.
The statue in the beach of Iracema is known as Iracema Guardian, and
shows the Indian girl holding a large bow, as if ready for a battle.
The statue is from 1996.
Praia do Futuro
is one
of the most beautiful beaches
of Fortaleza.
Praia do Futuro means
Beach of the
Future, in Portuguese. In Praia do Futuro
are many rustic restaurants which provide a beach chair, large
parasol, basic food and drink. Praia do Futuro is
20 km far from Iracema and is not as busy
as the other urban beaches in Fortaleza, which makes it less safer.

Fortaleza Fortres - Nossa Senhora
This
fortress is where the
History of Fortaleza started.
Mostly known as Castelo da Póvoa.
Built in 1649 by the
Portuguese in the
Dutch side, to
defend the town from pirate attacks, in the site of an earlier fort
known as "Forte de Torrão". It is considered a listed property of
Public Interest in Portugal. The
fortress is located in the heart of the city and
is open for visitations.
To visit the fortress, approach the soldier who stands guard
in front of the main entrance he will
direct you to the main office, and the person in charge will explain
briefly what can be seen and will authorize the visit.
Nossa Senhora means Fort of Our Lady
of the Rising.
The fortress was refurbished many times, and
since 1942 it has been the headquarter of the 10a. Military Region
of the Brazilian Army.
Beira mar
Is
the most visited tourist spot in the city. Its unmistakable beauty,
proportioned by the seafront and the magnificent recreational
setting, offers moments of pure pleasure strolling along the
esplanade. It is a great center for cultural, artistic and sporting
events. In

and is one of the best activities for those

Fortaleza
is one of the places in Brazil that as a tourist you can see and
learn Capoeira.
Capoeira was formed by African
slaves that were forced into immigration by Portugal into South
America between the 16th and 19th centuries.
The slaves were put
to work in the plantations where sugar and tobacco were the main
crops. The oppression caused by slavery was a huge mechanism for
Capoeira, and the martial art was mainly developed as a way to
escape and resist the domination that governed their everyday lives.
Capoeira is a fighting style designed for rebellion, but disguised
